2024-25 Men's and Women's Golf Season Preview

2024-25 Men's and Women's Golf Season Preview

The Providence Christian College golf team opens a new season alongside Coach Marc Lengtat, who is excited to lead both men's and women's golf teams into an incredible year. Coach Lengtat hopes to instill confidence in his players so that they thrive in every tournament this year. With returning golfers on the men's program and a newly created women's program, the 2024-25 Sea Beggars golf program strives to practice diligently, demonstrate perseverance, and look to compete in all that they do this season.

It has been a rough start to 2025 as high winds and wildfires decimated a significant part of our local community, with many people losing their properties and some even losing loved ones. There are many tragedies surrounding us, and some have lost hope in the future. Our Sea Beggar golf team is linking arms, ready to share the hope and love of the Lord through the game of golf. Coach Lengtat and the student-athletes desire to be a beacon of light and hope for those that are lost and help them find peace and comfort in Christ alone.

The Providence Christian College Athletic Department never had a full women's golf team in its history, but this year marks the beginning of a new program with high expectations. With Coach Lengtat's hard work in recruiting and eagerness to start a women's golf team, the Sea Beggar program and community are thrilled to see how each student-athlete will excel in their sports and fortify the foundation of this new program. The Lady Sea Beggars are determined to be persistent in their day-to-day practices and showcase on the golf course their amazing talents. With their dedication to the sport and Coach Lengtat's guidance, the ladies hope to make a statement and boost the program for years to come. As the whole team is a new addition, Coach Lengtat is excited for all of them as they grow in their golf skills and in their relationship with God. One player that Coach Lengtat expects to lead the way for the team both on and off the course is Alexa Ibarraran. Justina Mares, Emily Cabbiness, and Reyana Gonzalez will follow close behind her, as each one of them is very talented. These ladies will be crucial building blocks as we begin a new journey in starting a women's golf program at Providence Christian College. With Coach Lengtat and Alexa's leadership, the women's golf program hopes to have great success this season and to grow this program better every year.

Three young men, Liam Argue, Malik Edd, and Mateusz Zarzycki, from last season, return to the men's golf team looking to make a bigger impact this season and improve every day on the team. We hope to see each of them use their well-earned experience on the course to play better and ultimately succeed in their game. From every swing to every putt, they aim to refine their game and compete to reach the top in every tournament. Among the three returners, Coach Lengtat expects senior Malik Edd to lead the men's team as he has the most experience in the upcoming tournaments. As Edd accumulated much knowledge of college golf over the years, we anticipate him getting great results on every hole and at the end of every tournament. We also expect the other men on the team to challenge themselves and to be determined to reach the #1 spot. When asked about what he is looking forward to, Edd replied, "I'm looking forward to continuing to build a stronger camaraderie within the team and hopefully looking to place high in a few tournaments as a team. When this season is over and we look back at what we've accomplished, I want to say proudly that we worked our absolute hardest and pushed for excellence wherever and whenever." Malik shared with us a slogan that he is striving for: "The slogan I aspire to fulfill is 'emptying the bucket,' especially in my final year here at Providence. My hope is that our team squeezes every ounce of effort we have into getting better in the classroom, on the course, and most importantly, in our faith." As they continue to work hard and strive to consistently grow in their skills, these young men hope to reach their ultimate goal of winning the California Pacific Conference championship. To complete his full men's golf team, Coach Lengtat added a new freshman golfer, Lewton Reed, to the group. Reed joins the program from Beggs, Oklahoma, and he is ready to showcase his skills and grow in his knowledge of the collegiate golf program. Coach Lengtat seeks to develop him into an effective student and player, increase his experience of being a collegiate golfer, and shepherd him to grow his faith in Christ.

Coach Lengtat expects to see each of his players excel and be Christian student-athletes. He hopes to assure his players that they can show their best potential on the course and have the determination to contend in each tournament this year. When asked about what the theme this year is, Coach Lengtat answered, "The theme this year is excelling as a Christian Student Athlete, specifically in that order. The order of those words is very important. With that knowledge, the team should know why we are on Earth and how we should glorify Christ in the things we do. Academically, the team understands that academics come before golf, and they strive to excel in the classroom. As golfers, they strive to excel on the course, from practicing to playing to weight training. I can see that all of them are getting 1% better every day. If we take care of the small things, then the big things will take care of themselves." Coach Lengtat also shares what he is looking forward to most this season: "I am excited to see the progress from each of the players and for what this year holds; every year holds a different energy with the new people we bring in. It will be remarkable to see the extraordinary success both the men's and women's golf programs will have this year." Coach Lengtat is ready to take up the challenge in coaching the golf program and exceed the expectations that he set for himself.

The men's and women's golf program is hosting their first golf tournament of the season from Tuesday, February 18th to Wednesday, February 19th at Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland, CA. They hope to see you there supporting them throughout the day on each hole and on each swing. With your support, both men's and women's golf teams look to get better and move in a positive direction towards winning the Cal Pac Conference championship.
