The Providence Christian College women's volleyball team gave their all in a tightly contested California Pacific Conference game against Simpson University on Saturday 10/9. From the opening serve, every player from Providence was poised and determined to win the match. The energy on the court was in unison as the Lady Sea Beggars were moving around and competing as one.
With the score being close in the first set, the Lady Sea Beggars prevailed 25-21, and it was evident that this would be a close match. During the second set, Jordyn Moser (SO/Prescott Valley, AZ) attacked with her serves, while Josye Miller held down the floor with her acrobatic digs and attacks. Unfortunately, Providence fell short in the second, losing 17-25. The third game was exceptionally close, and with the score tied at 22-22, the match seemingly could have gone either way. The Lady Sea Beggars stayed determined and put in a valiant fight for the last points, but the Red Hawks won the third set 23-25. Despite the Sea Beggars trailing 1-2 in sets, the crowd was on their feet and ready for a win. With the score again tied, this time at 24-24, Simpson was serving, the crowds cheers made it deafening in the Sea Beggar Cove. The Simpson serve hit the net, giving the point to the Sea Beggars and with a chance to close out the game, Providence took advantage winning the game 26-24 behind the tenacious play at the net by Aniayia Harris (JR/Palmdale, CA), and tying the overall match score at 2-2 with the final set to determine the winner. Aniayia Harris, Raquel Valdovinos (JR/Palmdale, CA), Cassidy Sanchez (JR/Clint, TX), Josie Miller, Jordyn Moser and Nicole Vasquez (SR/Downey, CA) took the court to start the final set. The score was close throughout, and the first timeout was taken at 10-11 with Simpson holding the narrow lead. The Lady Sea Beggars weren't able to slow down Simpson and ended up dropping game five 10-15.
The Lady Sea Beggars return home for at 7pm match versus the University of Antelope Valley on Tuesday October 12th. UAV won the first match on September 25th in 5 sets. Providence is looking to respond with a conference win in the friendly confines of The Cove. Come cheer our Lady Sea Beggars on to victory!
