Perseverance - VISION - Tenacity

Providence Christian women's volleyball team faced the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers Thursday on their homecourt in Pasadena. Heading into this Californica Pacific Conference match, the Lady Sea Beggars had knocked on the door of victory the two previous matches but had been turned away. They were primed for a win and came in with a tunnel vision focus to get the job done.

The energy in the Cove was electric, and the Lady Sea Beggars stormed to an early lead, as they were urged on by the rowdy home crowd. UAV battled back to keep the score close, but PCC responded, opened a lead, and took the first set 25-21. Starting the second set, you could see that UAV wasn't going to back down and just concede this game. With the score tied at 24-24, and Caitlyn Sanchez serving for the 25th point, Antelope Valley took a timeout to regroup knowing that the result could easily go either way. After the time out, Caitlyn's serve scored on a UAV error, she quickly followed the point by serving an ace for the set winning point. With Providence leading 2-0, everyone in Blue and Orange was feeling excited and could taste the victory coming. UAV had something to say about that though, and came out swinging in the 3rd set, opening an 8-1 lead over the Lady Sea Beggars. The PCC women showed perseverance and responded with tenacity. The final score of the 3rd set ended up being 25-15 in favor of the Pioneers, but the focus and determination of the girls were still evident. As the 4th set began, you could see that the Lady Sea Beggars wanted this win. Starting the set a few points behind, PCC made a comeback and had the game tied at 19-19. Josye Miller (SR/Redmond, OR) took control at the net with her spikes, forcing Antelope to take a timeout with Providence leading 21-19. Points were exchanged until the two teams were eventually again tied at 22-22, but once PCC got that 23rd point they never looked back, taking the win 25-23 and the overall win 3-1.

Energy is unmatched in the cove where the students have their iconic "plank" and the Big Bad Beggar mascot lead the way. If you haven't come out and experienced a home volleyball match, you're certainly missing out. Come catch their last two home matches on Thursday October 21st at 5pm versus Marymount, and on Saturday October 30th at 2pm versus University of Antelope Valley.
