Volleyball Newcomers
The Providence Christian College women's volleyball team welcomes four new signees for the 2022-2023 school year, and the sky is the limit as coach Lauryn Andrew builds towards the future. Joining the Sea Beggars are freshmen Isabella De Leon (FR/Vallejo, CA), Rachel Jensen (FR/Murray, UT), Jacey Loewen (FR/Paso Robles, CA), and Jenelle Loewen (FR/Paso Robles, CA).
Seven Year volleyball veteran and outside hitter Isabella "Bella" De Leon hails from Vallejo California and Xceleration Volleyball Club. When asked about the upcoming season, Bella said, "For this season I'm most excited about creating new bonds and memories with my teammates. I feel like that's always a highlight for each new season. Each new season has its own individual uniqueness." She added, "I love Providence because of the family and community like feel. When I first visited, I felt a part of the community and not like I was new. It felt familiar to me." Bella knows that her faith offers her protection and guidance and knows that Providence will help foster her relationship with Christ. She is also confident that the curriculum at Providence will better prepare her to become an attorney one day. Volleyball and her faith kept Bella from turning to dark times when her grandpa passed away. Being at PCC fills a tremendous void as she seeks to establish deep familial connections at a home away from home, and Bella is going to miss having her three brothers around to support her the most.
Utah native, Rachel Jensen, joins Providence from Northern Elite Volleyball Academy. She is seeking a career in the medical field as a nurse and her concentration is in Health and Life Sciences. On the court Rachel will be utilized as an outside hitter and/or defensive specialist. She is most looking forward to playing next-level volleyball. Rachel says that "volleyball ignites a passion that touches every corner of her life". She has a strong foundation in her relationship with Jesus and we can't wait to see how her presence will ignite the same zest with her teammates. When asked about what she's looking forward to this year, Rachel said, "I'm looking forward to all the memories and friendships that will be made this season! I can't wait to build these relationships that will last a lifetime. In my short time at Providence, I have fallen in love with the close-knit community, and I truly feel seen, known, and loved here." Rachel expanded saying, "I'm proud to play for PCC because Providence represents everything that is important to me. From education to athletics, God is at the center of Providence's mission and I'm proud to play for PCC because of that."
Freshman Middle, Jacey Loewen is from Paso Robles, CA where she played for Flight Academy Volleyball Club. Jacey says that volleyball gives her "a sense of freedom", and at 6'1", one can see why! Jacey is a multi-sport athlete (basketball), but says that volleyball is the most fun, brings her the most confidence, and keeps her humble. Jacey has 6 siblings, one of which is twin sister and teammate Jenelle. She loves to cook and one day hopes to own her own bakery that specializes in wedding cakes and pastries. When asked about what she's looking forward to this season, Jacey said, "I'm most looking forward to road trips with the team and strengthening my faith with the girls this season". She added about Providence, "I love providence because you have the chance to make close connections with people while learning new ways of life through God". She believes that "my faith leads me by giving me confidence, and I've learned to trust in God rather than dwell in failure."
Lefty Opposite, Jenelle Loewen is from Paso Robles, CA and went to Paso Robles High school. Her concentration is Education as she hopes to become an elementary teacher. Her desire is to be confident and knowledgeable when sharing the gospel with others. Jenelle has wanted to be a college athlete since she was a little girl, but most thought it would be in basketball. However, she finds the significance of being a Christian athlete in her realization of God's plan: one that provides an opportunity to find hope, happiness, kindness, and so much more throughout her journey with volleyball. When asked about what she's looking forward to about playing at Providence, Janelle answered, "I am looking forward to bonding with new teammates and growing in the sport I love. One thing that I love about PCC is how it is one family, and everyone is very supportive". Jenelle added, "Volleyball is like my therapy; I love the process of getting better, bringing energy to the court, and how it teaches me to trust God and people, because we're all in it together and have each other's backs."
Welcome to the Providence family ladies and we look forward to watching your incredible careers unfold before our eyes. Make sure to come out and cheer on these new Lady Sea Beggars.
