2024 Women's Volleyball Season Preview
The Providence Christian volleyball team is launching the 2024 season alongside new head women's volleyball coach Liz Younglove. The Lady Sea Beggars are determined to train diligently and become a unified team in this new season.
The captains this season are junior Jacey Loewen and sophomore Isabella Taue'etia. They will be crucial for this volleyball program as they work in unison to lead this great group of young women. When asked about what she was looking forward to this season and what she expects the Providence community to see in this team, Jacey said, "I am looking forward to growing as a team and having a bigger impact on the court as we are only a team of 13. I expect the Providence community to see joy on the court and passion that proves that we deserve the things we want to achieve." Isabella added, "This season, I am looking forward to bettering my knowledge and skills of the game and leading the girls in achieving our goals and growing stronger together."
Jacey mentions Colossians 3:23, which says, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." As captains, Jacey and Isabella will strive to embody the phrase "For Him", as they will play to glorify God with the gifts and talents He gave them. Loewen and Taue'etia hope to exemplify this Bible verse in all they do, but especially as they are on the court and in the classrooms. As they continue to remind everyone who they are playing for, Jacey and Isabella hope to build a strong sisterhood and believe their time on the court together will be important for long-lasting relationships in the future.
When asked about key contributors, coach Younglove points out that they don't have a specific impact player on the team because each athlete is an integral part of the team. If any athlete does not play with their hearts out, then we cannot do well in any situation. Jacey reveals that the passers will be a huge difference-maker on the team. In order to make effective hits during the game, a solid pass is what they need to rely on most. Each athlete will be important throughout this season, and the ladies hope to demonstrate respect, hard work, and discipline through their practices and games. They hope to establish a strong work ethic and responsibility within their academics and athletics.
Coach Younglove started this season focused on sharing the love of the game with her players and helping her athletes become better young women in the future. The team retreat activities and pre-season practices emphasized the importance of unity, understanding that from the moment they begin warmups to the moment the last ball drops in a game, they need to rely on each other. When asked about this season and what the Providence community should expect, coach Younglove responded, "I'm looking forward to being with this group every day. I enjoy working with each student-athlete. I expect the Providence community to see a team of young women who genuinely love the sport. They will see a group of young women striving to do their best every single day." Coach Younglove shares how fans are of the utmost importance to this season: "We will thrive off the energy of the fans just like the fans will thrive off our energy. Fans at games are an integral part of our team. Fans are more than just spectators. They are an extension of our bench."
Together, these 13 players are seeking to be contenders in each match, and ultimately for postseason play. Your co-captains call on the Providence community to bring your fiery Sea Beggar energy, because your presence matters to the team at all games. There are a handful of home games, and they need everybody's support! The Lady Sea Beggars have their first home game on Friday, September 6th at 10am against Justice College. Come cheer them on at Providence Christian College's Clement Court and be the seventh Sea Beggar on the court!
